Movie Review: Aneet Padda shines in Saiyaara, but story falters

‘Saiyaara’ is a film full of high expectations and glossy set-pieces, but only some of its promises are fulfilled. The story circles familiar territory, attempting to spin heartstrings with a tale of love and ambition—sadly, it seldom rises above the predictable.
If there is a reason to watch ‘Saiyaara’, it is Aneet Padda. Her performance adds genuine emotion and substance to scenes that too often would feel hollow. Whether portraying yearning, disappointment, or fleeting joy, Aneet imbues her character with an honesty that feels refreshing. She lifts every frame she appears in, and her screen presence far outweighs the cardboard plotting.
It is unfortunate, then, that Ahaan Panday cannot match her energy. His portrayal skims the surface of his character, rendering moments of drama limp and unconvincing. There are scenes which require gravitas or vulnerability, but Ahaan approaches them with an expressionless delivery, muffled dialogue delivery, robbing key moments of power. Little chemistry emerges between him and his co-star, and many exchanges feel rehearsed rather than lived.
The film is visually competent, with crisp cinematography and sufficiently upbeat music. Yet, no technical wizardry can mask the uninspired writing or lifeless pacing that drags the plot to a tedious crawl. There are attempts at grandeur and emotional depth, but most are abandoned after a cursory glance, leaving the entire experience feeling unfinished.
‘Saiyaara’ never truly becomes memorable, saved only in scattered moments by Aneet Padda’s talent. Overall, this film is a disappointment, weighed down by a lacklustre lead performance and a script that never soars.
